Devlog 3: Start of production

Hello everyone! We have finally entered production stage after our prototype got approved by the teachers. We still had some more planning and paper work to do, when will it end I wonder? But we also already started working on our unreal project, creating textures, making shaders and designing characters.

Paperwork & Planning

Before we could start working on Robbin' Hook we had to make our design document. This document describes everything in the game from the story, all the game mechanics to all the art assets that will have to be made. Our team discussed this together and we ended up with a complete, well rounded, design document.  This was not all the paperwork! We also had to plan our tasks for the next 3 weeks and discuss who does what job and in what week. After we had everything planned out we could start working on Robbin' Hook!

Programming

The programmers started with making the unreal project that will slowly but surely be transformed into the final product.  Afterwards they started implementing the input, camera and hook mechanics. These are the basics Robbin' Hook is build on after all!

Art

Our artist have been busy with finetuning the shader the gives us our cellshaded look and started on making a wood texture that we will use all over our level. They also started working on some tangible tasks, like designing and modelling the player and enemies.

Conclusion

While we still had some paperwork to do, we have officially entered production and are excited to bring Robbin' Hook to life.  Some of the base mechanics are already present and the artist are busy with making sure our game will look the best it can. Next week the programmers will start implementing enemies and traps, while the artist will be busy creating our main character and enemy models. I hope this will keep you hooked for now, pun intended!
